Waterproofing is a complementary work to make a material, indeed, waterproof, overlapping one or more layers of different materials to protect construction elements of various kinds such as floors, walls, tanks, wells, swimming pools.
There are several options for waterproofing materials and the choice varies according to: aesthetics, thickness and weight.
For preparation, before waterproofing it is necessary to:
- remove brittle or unstable parts such as dust from the surface;
- make the surface smooth and free of impurities, using appropriate products or specific preparations, in our case we speak of primers.
It must also be considered that any moisture present in the construction element can no longer evaporate through the sealed area; depending on the case, it will be necessary to wait for ideal climatic conditions by controlling the humidity with a suitable meter for building materials.
The waterproof layer once made, both horizontally and vertically, must be protected from foot-stepping, impact, or atmospheric agents, such as direct rays of the sun, which can deteriorate the material and make it unusable.
