Fornaci Calce Grigolin is currently one of the most important players in Italy and on the international stage in the field of building materials and technology. With forty years of experience behind it, acquired on construction sites and in its research and development laboratories, it looks to the future with an eye to continual evolution, improvement in product quality and continued delivery of customer service by skilled and knowledgeable staff. Its prime objective is to become the ideal partner for the leading companies in the building world.

The beginning of the company’s history goes back to the 1950s when Giobatta Grigolin invested his savings in the purchase of a lorry for transporting sawdust and river pebbles for delivery to the numerous limekilns located along the river Piave. The first Grigolin limekiln started operating in 1963. In 1974 Giobatta Grigolin was joined in the running of the company by his sons Maurizio and Roberto, who had been given responsibilities from an early age. In fact, when Giobatta died in 1978, the two sons unhesitatingly assumed control of the business. A few years later the company structure was redefined: Renato, the youngest of Giobatta and Irma’s four sons also became part of the group, and each of them assumed specific roles and areas of competence.

The end of the eighties saw the beginning of the production of plasters and mortars for masonry, supplied direct to site by means of silos, and the introduction of the new plant for hydrated lime. In the nineties a new kiln was installed, run for 24 hours a day by a new computerized control centre. In the same period, sawdust began to be employed as a fuel in place of methane, firing the lime over a slow flame. This process obtained a patent from the Ministry of Industry.
From the year 2000 onwards, Fornaci Calce Grigolin plants began to expand throughout northern Italy: Medesano (Parma), Bosco Marengo (Alessandria), Borgoricco (Padova), Zandobbio (Bergamo) and Colleferro (Rome): the latter is the largest readymix plant in Italy. Since 2002 Grigolin has also had a presence in Germany, with the opening of the plant at Ettlingen and the acquisition, in 2004, of a consortium of builders’ merchants now called arteMURI GmbH. In 2006 Grigolin SA was set up in Switzerland, while in Slovenia a new warehouse was opened. The same year saw the start of the Grigopronto service, a system of delivering equipment and technical assistance direct to construction sites. Also in 2006, a modern, technologically advanced paint factory was set up within the plant at Medesano (Parma), offering the consumer a wide range of very high quality products. In 2008 Fornaci Grigolin opened a new production plant in Brescia.
